Theme 3 Exercises: OPERATIONS WITH FILES

Please, open Excel2003, if it isn't already opened, so you can perform the following exercises.

Exercise 1: Price with vat.

1 Create a new book. We are going to see the price of an item applying to it 16% VAT.

The price without VAT  is a value you have to introduce, so it is the VAT percentage, but the price including VAT will be calculated by a formula.

The example on the right shows the way it should look, taking into account that both the vat amount and the price including vat must be calculated with formulas.

2 Save the book in My documents folder in the hard disc, with the name Price VAT .

3 Change the price without VAT to 3000, notice the result (to check the result you have to introduce the value 3000 and then press ENTER or use any of the other methods we have seen. If you don't do that the cell won't be modified and you will not be able to check the effect of the change on the cells that contain formulas).

4 Close the workbook without saving the changes you have made.

5 Open the previuos book and you will see that the modifications above (change price to 3000 instead of 1000) haven't been saved.

6 Close the book.
