Step by step exercise. Cell format pattern.


Objective.

 

Differentiate between and use the different pattern change options availible in Excel2003.

 

Step by step exercise.

 

1 If Excel2003 is not open, open it in order to perform the exercise.

2 Open the Initial Fruit sales workbook found in the Exercises folder of the course.

3 Select the range A1:H2.

4 Go to the Formats menu.

5 Select the Cells... option.

6 Click on the Patterns tab.

7 Select by clicking on the Color blue in the Color box.

Observe how we see an example of the colour in the Sample box.

8 Click on the OK button.

Observe the result, in order to see it better, click on any cell in such a way as to remove the previous selection.

9 Select the range B4:H4 .

10 Go to the Formats menu.

11 Select the Cells... option.

12 Click on the Patterns tab if it is not already activated.

13 Click on the arrow to the right of the Pattern box to open the list of pattern types.

14 Select one with few points, 6,25% Gray , if you situate the pointer over a pattern type and wait for a second, the tag will appear with the pattern name.

We can also select the colour of the points in the pattern.

15 Click on the arrow to the right of the Pattern box to open the list of pattern types.

16 Select the color Red.

If you want to change the background colour:

17 Select Light blue in the Color box.

18 Click on OK.

Observe the result, in order to see it better, click on any cell in such a way as to remove the previous selection.

We will now remove the previous shading (the pattern) using the menu.

19 Select the range B4:H4 .

20 Go to the Format menu.

21 Select te Cells... option.

22 Click on the Patterns tab if it is not already activated.

23 Select No color option in the Color box.

24 Click on the OK button.

We can also shade the cells from the toolbar, but only with the background colour.

25 Select the range A5:A12 .

26 Click on the arrow to the right of the botón relleno button on the toolbar in order to select the fill colour.

27 Click on the colour Red.

Observe the result.

To remove a shading from the toolbar.

28 Select the range A5:A12 if it is not already selected.

29 Click on the arrow to the right of the botón relleno button on the toolbar in order to select the fill colour.

30 Click on the No fill option.

Observe the result.

31 Save the workbook with the same name as before.

32 Close the workbook.
