Step by step exercise. Moving cells.
Practice the the various ways to move and to displace cells within an Excel2003 workbook.
Step by step exercise.
1 If Excel2003 is not open, open it in order to perform the exercise.
2 Start a new workbook.
3 Introduce the value 34 into cell A1.
4 Introduce the formula =A1*2 into cell A2.
We are now going to change the position of cell A2 in order to place it in cell C2. We will use the clipboard for this.
5 Select cell A2.
6 Go to the Edit menu.
7 Select the Cut option, and if it does not appear situate yourself over the button to enlarge the menu.
The contents of cell A2 are now situated in the clipboard.
8 Situate yourself in cell C2, which is where we want to move the previous cell to.
9 Go to the Edit menu.
10 Select the Paste option, and if it does not appear situate yourself over the button to enlarge the menu.
The contents of cell situated in the clipboard are now automatically placed where we are situated..
Observe how the contents of the cell have not changed, and are still =A1*2.
We can perform the same operation but using the buttons on the toolbar instead of the menu.
To use this method we will move cell A1 to D1.
11 Select the cell to move, that is, A1.
12 Click on the button on the toolbar.
13 Situate yourself where we want to leave the cell, D1.
14 Click on the button on the toolbar.
Observe how the result of cell C2 has not changed, and if we situate ourselves here and look at the formula bar we see that the contents have changed to =D1*2 .
We are now going to move cells without using the clipboard. We will start by changing the contents of the cell C2 to A2.
15 Select the cell to move, that is, C2 .
16 Stiuate the mouse pointer over any part of the selected borders.
The mouse pointer converts to an arrow pointing to the left .
17 Click and maintain on the mouse while dragging toward the cell we want to move to, A2, and then release the mouse button.
18 Perform the same steps to change the contents of cell D1 to A1.
19 Close the workbook without saving the changes.
