Unit 5. Advanced. More selection methods

We are now going to study the selection methods further in order to learn how to select using the keyboard and also how to select various calculation sheets.

Selecting cells using the keyboard

If we want to select a range of adjacent cells:

Situate yourself in the first cell to select and press the F8 key.

Observe how the EXT identifier appears in the state bar, which indicates to us that we are going to extend or enlarge our selection.

Drop down the arrows to enlarge the selection.

Once you have finished the selection, release the F8 key to deactivate the Extend mode.

If we want to select various non-adjacent cells.

Select the first range to select, and press the SHIFT and the F8 key at the same time.

Observe how the ADD identifier appears in the state bar, indicating to us that we are going to add to or increase our selection.

Click on the cells to add to the selection until all the required cells are added.

Press the SHIFT and F8 keys to deactivate the Add mode.

To select an entire column:

Situate yourself in any cell of the column to select.

Depress the CTRL tab and the SPACEBAR at the same time.

To select an entire row:

Situate yourself in any cell of the row to select.

Depress the CTRL tab and the SPACEBAR at the same time.

To select all the cells in a sheet:

Situate yourself in any cell.

Depress the CTRL and SHIFT tabs and the SPACEBAR at the same time.

Selecting various worksheets

When we are in a worksheet this sheet will naturally remain selected, but methods exist to select more than one sheet.

If we want to select various consecutive sheets:

Select the first sheet of the selection (it will stop being the active sheet).

Maintaining the SHIFT tab selected, click on the label of the last sheet to select.

If we want to select various non-consecutive sheets:

Select the first sheet of the selection (it will stop being the active sheet).

Maintaining the CTRL tab depressed, click on the tag of the next sheet to select.

Repeat the last step until we have all the desired sheets selected.

If we want to select all the sheets in the workbook:

Right-clic on any sheet tag so that the contextual menu appears.

Select the Select all sheets option.

To deselect a sheet:

Maintaining the CTRL tab depressed, click on the tag of the sheet to deselect.

Note that the active sheet can not be deselected
