Step by step exercise. The relationship window


Objective.

 

To practice the Clear, Show direct,and Show all procedures from Relationship windows.

 

Exercise 1.

 

1 Copy the Example1.mdb database found in Exercises folder to the My exercises folder in your hard drive.

2 Open the Example1.mdb database in your hard drive.

This database has some tables and relationships defined in which we will see the effect of the options Clear Layout, Show all, and Show Direct better.

3 Situate yourself in the Database window.

4 Drop down Tools menu.

5 Select Relationships... option.

Now you are in the Relationship window.

6 Drop down Edit menu.

7 Select the Clear Layout option.

Now the Relationships menu is empty.

Now we want to know the tables related with the TEACHERCLICK_CLIENTS table.

8 Drop down Relationships menu.

9 Select Show table option.

The Show tables dialogue box will appear.

10 Select the TEACHERCLICK_CLIENTS table.

11 Click on the Add button.

12 Click on the Close button.

13 Drop down Relationships menu.

14 Select Show direct option.

Observe how all the tables related to TEACHERCLICK_CLIENTS as well as all the corresponding relationships appear.

15 Click on TEACHERCLICK_ORDERS.

16 Drop down Relationships menu.

17 Select Show direct option.

Observe the result.

18 Drop down Relationships menu.

19 Select Show all option.

Observe how the tables that lacked now appear.

20 Close the Relationships window.

 

Exercise 2.

 

Now we will do the same using buttons in Toolbars.

1 Click on the button on the toolbar.

Now you are in the Relationships window.

2 Click on the button on the toolbar.

The Relationships window is now empty.

Now we want to know which tables are related to the TEACHERCLICK_CLIENTS table.

3 Click on the button on the toolbar.

The Show tables dialogue box will appear.

4 Doubleclick on TEACHERCLICK_CLIENTS table.

5 Click on the Close button.

6 Click on the button on the toolbar.

Observe how all the tables related to TEACHERCLICK_CLIENTS as well as all the corresponding relationships appear.

7 Click on the TEACHERCLICK_ORDERS table.

8 Click on the button on the toolbar.

Observe the result.

9 Click on the button on the toolbar.

Observe how the tables that lacked now appear.

10 Close the Relationships window.
